What is a journal club?

Journal clubs are social gatherings common in academia where scientists discuss scientific journal articles in disciplines relevant to their interests. They are communities which support their members' efforts to keep up-to-date with the field as well as hone and develop the critical capacity to understand scientific literature. They are a form of post-publication peer review.

Who can participate?

Anybody who has an internet connection is welcome to log on, watch our discussion, and participate on Twitter. We strongly encourage everyone to read the selected article and it is mandatory for those who participate by video. The better prepared we all are, the deeper our discussion can venture and the better our collective understanding of the scientific findings.

Why online?

The internet allows us to connect with a very different audience than a journal club in academia. We want to extend the opportunity to critically explore scientific journal articles to everyone. Science is as much about the collection of data as it is about the interpretation and we believe that ongoing review of the published literature is an important part of the scientific enterprise.
